An engagement session captures a fleeting time in a couple’s journey: the moments together before you say “I do”. It’s an exciting period in your life — you’ve decided to get married! And we’re here to capture it so you have memories to cherish forever. Whether you use the photos for your wedding invitations or simply frame them for your home, they’ll always hold a special place in your heart.
The engagement session is also a great introduction to the photographic process. We’ll have a
chance to get to know each other before the wedding. You’ll have a chance to get comfortable in
front of our cameras in a low-stress environment. We understand that not everyone has experience
posing, so the engagement session will help you learn the process and discover the most flattering
poses for you.
Not only will you walk away with beautiful photos of a special time in your life, but you’ll
also be prepared to nail those wedding day photos.
Here’s the thing…
The engagement session will be between 1–1.5 hours. This allows time to travel between
locations in the area, and do close-up and full-length poses.
If we’re shooting in a busy area like the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, then we may take a
little longer. If you choose to do an outfit change, be aware that some garments may take extra time
to change into.
For variation in your photos, you can bring a second outfit and change midway through the session. We recommend one formal outfit and one casual. Please come wearing the formal outfit. Unsure what kind of formal to go for? Think of something you’d wear to a nice dinner or a wedding.
Pack the casual outfit in a duffle bag that Alex can sling over his shoulder while shooting your photos. This will allow you to be hands free for the session so you can focus on each other rather than carrying belongings. Engagement sessions require some walking around, so please do not bring garment bags or any heavy items like laptops.
When it comes to clothing, choose what makes you feel good. If you’re unsure, stick to soft neutrals as they’re timeless and flattering. Beige, navy, white, and black photograph best. Avoid patterned clothing like stripes or polka dots.
