Liberty Warehouse Wedding Photographer | Three Real Weddings in Red Hook, Brooklyn
Walk to the end of Conover Street in Red Hook and the city does something it almost never does… it opens up. Pier 41, the Civil War-era shipping warehouse that became the Liberty Warehouse, sits right on the lip of New York Harbor with the Statue of Liberty close enough to read her expression and the Manhattan skyline stacked on the horizon behind her. Fifteen-thousand square feet of original brick, timber beams, and water on three sides. We’ve photographed weddings all over New York, and there is still nothing quite like this room.
We’ve been lucky enough to photograph the Liberty Warehouse many times over the years. This post gathers three of our favorite celebrations there… three different couples, three different seasons, one extraordinary venue. If you’re planning a Liberty Warehouse wedding and wondering what your day could look like, start here.
Why the Liberty Warehouse Is a Photographer’s Dream
Most Brooklyn venues make you choose: industrial texture or open sky. The Liberty Warehouse refuses. Inside, you get century-old brick, huge arched windows, and warehouse columns that swallow string lights whole. Step through the doors and you’re on a waterfront promenade with the harbor, the Statue of Liberty, and the Verrazzano in frame. Sunset happens directly over the water. The couples below used all of it.
Kristin & Ben … A Sunset Chuppah Over the Harbor
Kristin and Ben married on the waterfront deck in late August, under a chuppah draped with a tallit and armfuls of white florals. Their first look happened against the warehouse’s exposed brick; their ceremony ended with a kiss lit entirely by the setting sun over the harbor. Inside, a canopy of fairy lights hung over long candlelit tables, and the hora lifted them both above a packed dance floor, handkerchief stretched between them.
Erica & Ben … A Summer Celebration with the Statue of Liberty as Witness
Erica and Ben started their day in DUMBO… sunglasses on, Brooklyn Bridge overhead, a detour to the famous red door on Old Fulton Street… then came home to Red Hook for an outdoor ceremony on the deck. Their greenery-wrapped chuppah framed the Statue of Liberty in the distance, Ben wore the traditional kittel, and the champagne kiss that followed the glass-breaking had the whole harbor behind it. Dinner ran under string lights with a cake cutting to close the night.
Leora & Ben … Twinkle Lights and a Winter Hora
Leora and Ben’s November wedding proved the Liberty Warehouse doesn’t need summer. Their ceremony happened indoors beneath a ceiling of twinkle lights, under a chuppah built of winter greenery. Escort cards sat on whiskey barrels wrapped in candlelight and moss. Between portraits on the venue’s steel staircase and a first-look session in DUMBO with the Brooklyn Bridge behind them, their day moved between industrial and romantic without ever breaking stride. It ended the way the best weddings do… a petal-toss exit and a dip kiss in the doorway of a hundred-and-seventy-year-old warehouse.
Planning Your Liberty Warehouse Wedding … A Photographer’s Notes
A few things we tell every couple who books us for this venue. First, build your timeline around the light: the harbor-side deck faces west, so a ceremony that ends within an hour of sunset gets you that molten golden-hour glow for portraits. Second, take the DUMBO detour… you’re fifteen minutes from the Brooklyn Bridge, Old Fulton Street, and the Empire Stores, and every couple who makes time for it is glad they did. Third, trust the room at night. The warehouse columns were built for string lights, and once they’re on, the reception photographs itself.
